So your bass clarinet doesn't fit in your Marcus Bonna double case. Now what?

Like all manufacturers, Bonna periodically makes design changes to their cases to accommodate changes to Bass Clarinet design. (Did you know, ALL manufacturers make rolling changes and improvements to their instrument designs all the time? And they don't make any announcements that these changes happen. It's not nefarious; it's just part of how instruments evolve.)
Anyway, you may have purchased a case from us, and your instrument doesn't fit. Or you purchase a new instrument and it no longer fits in the case!
That's what this blog post is about.
First off, Bonna cases are not "one size fits all." — they're more like "one size kinda fits all." This means that there may be a little surgery needed to make your particular instrument fit inside snugly. A razor blade or utility knife is going to be needed.
Assuming you've put the instrument in correctly, you may see keys bumping up against the foam blocks in a way that makes you think, "there is NO way this instrument will fit."
(Again, make sure you're putting it in correctly: bottom joint on top, with long keys to the left. Top joint on the bottom with trill keys to the right. Both joints should be face up.)
If this is the case, you can simply carve out the small part of foam that is offending your instrument, and you're good to go.
If, however, you cannot make your instrument fit, I can send you a set of replacement foam. Contact me and I'll set you up.
Once you get those pieces, have a look at the instructions below to swap the blocks out.

Just follow the instructions in the photos below and you too can have a modded-out bass clarinet case!
