Rovner Versa X Bb Clarinet Ligature

Rovner Versa X Bb Clarinet Ligature

The Rovner Versa X has got projection for miles (well, maybe not miles...) and a super fast response. It can produce a sound that's markedly louder than the Vandoren M|O and even louder than the Vandoren Optimum. I was surprised. Like it's sibling the Versa it's a fabric ligature with a stack of curved metal plates that touch the reed. And, like the Versa, it has fabric flaps that can tuck behind or lay on top of the metal plates. Unlike the Versa, the metal plates are riveted into place.

With the plates touching the reed, it has a glorious "ping" — upper-mid partials around 3,000-5,000Hz — that makes the clarion soar. If it gets too bright for you, the fabric flaps will darken the sound in those frequencies, but you still get a similar reed response.

Comes with mouthpiece cap.

The Best Ligatures for the Money Spent

Let me be clear...I am completely biased when it comes to Rovner ligatures. Why...? I have been using Rovner ligatures exclusively since 1980, but I still take time to try other ligature models. Rovner ligatures are the best value for the money spent, and literally last forever...well most of the models. Prior to using Rovner ligatures, I used a variety of metal and other ligatures for clarinet and sax. In the end, I found that metal ligatures had a major flaw...the metal fatigues over time and breaks. When I discovered Rovner, I finally found a ligature that held the reed secure, and did not break. I have used several different models--from the original dark model, the light model, the Mk. III, the original Eddie Daniels model, and now the Versa X. I can say without reservation that all of these Rovner ligatures are worthy of consideration, and that they all last many years. I can also say that all of these models hold the reed securely, yet somewhat differently, and therefore the overall sound and tone color are somewhat different. For those who are new to Rovner ligatures, I recommend that you try several of the available models to select the one best for you. You will not be disappointed.
