On Green Dolphin Street - Eric Dolphy Transcription
Here is the full transcription of On Green Dolphin Street from Eric Dolphy’s 1960 recording Outward Bound. You can listen to the track here (Spotify), here (Apple Music), here (Amazon Music), here (Tidal), or here (YouTube). Or, you know, with that dusty vinyl record you got in 1971.
On this track, you’ll hear Freddie Hubbard on Trumpet, Jaki Byard on Piano, George Tucker on Bass, Roy Haynes on Drums, and of course, Dolphy on Bass Clarinet.
This download has two parts: 1) the transcription, 2) the transcription with Dolphy’s fingerings (and a fingering chart).
Enjoy!

This was a great challenge that made me grow as a bass clarinetist. It even helped me grow on soloing on my tenor sax for jazz. This improved my subdividing in my fast runs thank for the transcription loved it.
i picked this piece for a chambers solo, this transcription was super helpful and easy to read, most of the time if i find something too hard i give up but i really really want to play this piece! such a great piece and such an amazing transcription!
the first time I listened to Eric Dolphy, I though "this is no more jazz" (in 1965)lol
At the second time, I though:"this is great, rush, modern, imaginative and soulful. Each time I listen to him, same comment. Love his music...
This is a delightful way to learn how to improvise, by copying/playing what the greats have done and I appreciate the availability of this solo
