Kessler Custom Low C Bass Clarinet - Midnight
Kessler Custom Low C Bass Clarinet - Midnight
The Kessler Custom Bass Clarinet is an ABS body with black nickel plated keys, neck and bell. Kessler horns are student-level, but with some features found only on high-end instruments. It's a great starter horn, and one of the very few I can stand behind.
I get this question frequently so I'll answer it here: the black nickel plating is pretty much aesthetic-only. The sound and play-feel of this model is identical to the silver nickel version — it just looks much cooler (in my humble opinion).
I understand that, especially with entry-level horns, cost is a primary concern. Therefore, I offer two different setups for these horns: a) Standard setup, b) Pro-level setup. The Standard setup includes basic playability overview, including key and pad-seating adjustments, and as the title implies, it comes standard with the instrument. The pro-level setup is much more extensive, and includes pad re-seating, tone-hole surfacing as needed, key-height adjustments (for tuning), and spring tension adjustments. If you would like something specific altered, I can accommodate most requests, just let me know in the comment field of your order, or email me in advance to discuss.
All earspasm instruments come with a 7-day trial. Please read my trial policy before pulling out that credit card.
Note: if you select the Pro setup, there will be a 10-14 day delay on the shipment...because we need to do that setup! Standard setups ship immediately.
Instrument comes with
- Standard case with hideaway backpack straps
- Neck strap, shoulder strap (for case), cork grease, warranty card, etc.
- Note, the instrument does NOT come with a mouthpiece or ligature. However, you can purchase those here in the shop!
FAQ:
Q: Is this the "Second Gen" Kessler?
A: Yes. In fact it's the Gen 2.1, with the improved heavier-weight neck and (much!) improved case.
Q: What is the plating, and how do I take care of it?
A: The plating is black nickel, with a lacquer coating. The lacquer coat improves the durability of otherwise soft black nickel and adds a deeper color to the finish. From Kessler's website regarding warranty of the finish: Please note that there is no way to 100% protect against all of the variables on finish wear. Every player & environment is unique and we cannot prevent wear for everyone. If you tend to use hand sanitizers & moisturizers, these items increase the potential for wear to the finish. There is no warranty on the finish. What I recommend doing is picking up a key polishing cloth and wiping down the keys after every session with the instrument. It takes about 90 seconds and will extend the life of all bass clarinet keys (not just these Kessler ones!)
Q: What if I'm in New York and want to try it in person?
A: Come on over! Just send me an email so we can set up an appointment time.
Q: Does the instrument come with a warranty?
A: Yes, it comes with the standard 1-year Kessler warranty. If you ever have any problem with the instrument, I'm your quarterback. I'll take care of the whole process, just let me know you need help, and I'll take it from there.
Q: What happens if it's damaged during shipping?
A: Inspect the package before you sign off at delivery! If there are any issues resulting from shipping, we have taken out an insurance policy to cover damage (and loss). But we need you to document this damage or we can't do anything to help.
Q: If I decide to return it, do also I have to pay return shipping costs?
A: Yes. And you will also want to insure it!
Q: Do you ship internationally?
A: Yes. You can add your shipping address when checking out to see what the shipping costs will be before taking the plunge. Note that VAT and Customs Duties are not included in this cost. With these Kessler instruments in particular, we should discuss a higher-end case than the one that comes with the horn.
I am absolutely thrilled with the clarinet. Many thanks from Germany!!!
Everything went real smooth. Payment, shipping and my son is a happy musician. No complaints about the process and instrument is perfect
Simply one of the most wonderful instruments i've had the pleasure to purchase and own. A lot of people love the look but also love the sound of it. This bass clarinet has the sound of an intermediate level, low professional sound for a fraction of the cost.
Michael and his tech, Miles, went above and beyond to make sure I am 100% satisfied with my new bass clarinet. I did have to wait almost 3 months (there were a few hiccups along the way), but good things come to those who have patience and have these incredibly good people helping them out. Kudos!
Now dubbed, "The Beast– by bandmates, this clarinet has even impressed the guitar players. A fabulous addition to any one-man horn section.
