Vandoren M|O Eb Clarinet Ligature (multiple plating versions)
Vandoren M|O Eb Clarinet Ligature (multiple plating versions)
Note: These are Eb clarinet ligatures.
I love how simple and un-fussy this thing is. Sound-wise it produces a somewhat lighter sound with crisper attacks than the Optimum—it’s a less substantial piece of metal, which is part of the reason.
This comes in several plating versions. If you’re into the aesthetic of a particular plating, go for it and justify the reason later. (Here are some to choose from: “The black plating makes my sound…darker.” “The pewter matches my platinum wedding ring.” “Gold makes my attacks more regal.”)
Although the ligature is made by Vandoren purchased for use on a Vandoren mouthpiece (a 5RV), both for an Eb clarinet, the ligature just a little large, even with Vandoren reeds. I have to place the ligature down a ways on the mouthpiece to get good purchase. Maybe it’s just another example of how the Eb clarinet is the ugly step child of the clarinet family?
