Vandoren B40 Alto Clarinet Mouthpiece
Vandoren B40 Alto Clarinet Mouthpiece
The Vandoren B40 Alto Clarinet mouthpiece has tip opening of 1.38mm and a medium-long facing, which makes it a little more open and "meatier" than the 5RV. It has a great response when paired with a Vandoren Traditional 2.5 or 3 reed.
I'm personally a fan of this mouthpiece (it's in my collection) and use it a lot for Basset Horn playing because it really opens up the instrument and allows for a huge sound. Works great on Alto clarinets too because, well, it's an Alto Clarinet mouthpiece.
Pro tip: if you would like to try something other than an Alto Clarinet reed, I recommend the Vandoren Java (Red) or Java (Green) Alto Sax reeds (go a 1/2 strength harder than you'd get in the Traditional cut).
TRIALS?
Now, many folks allow for trials of mouthpieces. With Vandoren mouthpieces, I don't. Why? (Is it because I'm a jerk? No.) Vandoren's manufacturing and hand-finishing process is so well-oiled, so consistent, that every mouthpiece of the same model is essentially the same.
That said, if you'd like to return it, I can accept it and sell it as used, however there is a $30 restocking fee to cover the reduction in value of the mouthpiece.
You simply cannot go wrong with Vandoren, and it's a great value.
